When my husband was going through cancer treatment, I went to all of his appointments. I asked questions, took notes, and helped him process what was said afterward. The pace was fast, the language clinical, and the emotional weight of all would have been a lot for him to carry alone. Being there for him made a real difference. I was grateful I could support him that way - because not everyone has someone beside them in those moments.
Sometimes it's distance. Sometimes it's schedules. Sometimes it's just too much to bear.
As my grandmother approached ninety, her medical care became more complicated - more appointments, more instructions, more decisions being made quickly with little explanation. She's still sharp, but the way healthcare is delivered doesn't always match the way the elderly process information. Things that once felt manageable were starting to feel overwhelming.
I remember wishing I could send someone I trusted to sit with her, to help her ask questions, to take her notes and make her feel supported. I couldn't understand why that wasn't easier to do - to find someone to sit beside her.
That empty space - the one where someone should've been sitting beside her - stayed with me. That's what led me to create Second Seat Health.
I want to make sure that no one feels isolated, unseen, or like they're falling through the cracks of an already overwhelmed system.
I want you to be able to choose a medically informed Advocate - for yourself or someone you love - so no one has to face appointments alone.
